Rower Progression at WNRC

Crew/Group/Club Rower Development (Orange & light green parts of pathway diagram)

These elements are rower led and draw on club resource.

Club (through coaches) provide a 'Toolbox' of support elements such as (but not limited to) those listed in orange box. The exception to this is senior race crews (Blue), which are coached.

Integration (red elements)

This element is rower led, Captains/Coach supported

(Rowers discuss with captains/coaches (c/c) what they would like to do/achieve, and the c/c help make that happen.  It could be joining an existing group or forming a new one.  Joining of existing groups is by mutual agreement and may include entry criteria.

New Rowers

(green element of diagram)

This Element is Coach Led

Learn-to-Row (LTR) courses are held 2-3 times per year, normally in the spiring/summer. LTR teaches the basics to row a single scull.

L1 culminates in sign-off (WNRC Bronze Proficiency Award) for independent rowing (juniors follow the same procedures, but are not able to row without supervision)

L2 as an introduction to Crew Rowing

(Experienced new rowers would complete elements as judged to be necessary but would complete the sign off element in all cases).
